THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Life in

Canora
.

Canora is an established west-end neighbourhood with a memorable origin story: its name comes from the Canadian Northern Railway, chosen in a 1948 school-naming contest that used the first two letters of each word — CA-NO-RA. Once part of the Town of Jasper Place, it joined Edmonton in 1964, and its homes range from mid-century single-family houses to duplexes and low-rise apartments, giving it one of the more affordable profiles in the area.

The neighbourhood is built for easy living. A commercial strip runs along Stony Plain Road on its southern edge, West Edmonton Mall and Mayfield-area shopping are minutes away, and the community league — known locally for some of the city’s best outdoor ice — keeps the social calendar full. It’s a practical, welcoming place to land.

WHAT LOCALS LOVE
  • Affordable, varied housing in a central-west location
  • An active community league — and famously good outdoor ice
  • Stony Plain Road shopping along the southern edge
  • Minutes from West Edmonton Mall and Mayfield Common
  • Strong transit access across the west end
