Allendale

Allendale is one of Edmonton’s older neighbourhoods, named for the Allen family who farmed the area before it joined the City of Strathcona in the early 1900s. Most of its homes went up in the postwar decades, and the result is a quiet grid of tree-lined streets built around a central park — the kind of place that rewards a slower pace.

Its real draw is location. Whyte Avenue’s shops, cafés, and nightlife sit just to the north, the University of Alberta is a short distance away, and the river valley’s trails and parks are close enough for a regular escape.
